George A Knowles 1888-1936





George Arthur Knowles was born on the 31 May 1888 at 5 Taylor Row,Barnsley,Yorkshire. The eldest of three children born to William Knowles & Kate Spink.
His brother William Edward Knowles and Sister Florence Susannah Knowles both dying in childhood.
George Arthur was employed as a coal miner with the Hodroyd Collieries Company at Ferrymoor,Yorkshire.
On the 27 Jan 1910 he married Ada Ashton.Born 11 Aug 1890 the daughter of John Ashton & Jane Lockwood at St Mary's Church,Barnsley.
George Arthur and Ada had only one child ,a son,George William Knowles.
In 1911 when George William was born the family were living at 11 Somerset Street,Barnsley, moving to 29 The Brickyard,Shafton near Barnsley,the family at this time included William Knowles the father of George Athur.
(I assume this move was to be nearer to his place of work.)
George Arthur died on the 06 July 1936 at the age of 48 years after a long illness, his death certificate states cause of death as Chronic Bronchitis,he was buried at St Peter's churchyard,Felkirk,Shafton.In the same grave (north area,row 19,space 4) has his father William Knowles who died on the 21 April 1931.There is no grave marker or stone.
